What to Expect:

There are two types of people when it comes to church:

  • People who need a thriving community

  • People who want to build a thriving community

If you are a professing Christian, you may be looking for a “turn-key” church experience. There are plenty of amazing churches in New York City that can provide that.

Then there are those who have a vision to see new people come to faith in Christ; people who understand that to reach a world that is unchurched, they will need to live like local missionaries. These people are in it for the long game: sowing the seed of the gospel and seeing a new church community grow by God Himself. Maybe you have had a “holy discontentment” for years…believing there is something missing in reaching our neighborhood. We want to help you do what God has put on your heart.

This is not church in a box.

This is not church for perfect people.

This is church for people who haven’t gotten it all together, but are desperate to see God move in their life and the lives of their friends, family, and coworkers.

Our Identity:

  • We want to grow to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus had 12 disciples (AKA disciplined learners), and subsequently started the church to continue to go forth and make other disciples (Matt. 28:18-20). None of us are Jesus, so we understand we need the body of Christ in order to mature into the people God created us to be. This means we embrace and invite others into our lives to become more like Jesus and fall more in love with Jesus. As 1 Thessalonians 2:8 says, "So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us."

  • We are big on the Bible. We believe becoming all God intended us to be means in part knowing all God wants us to know (Acts 20:27). The Bible is the unified story given to us from God "so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:17). Therefore, we make it our aim everywhere we go from the pulpit to the home to edify each other by going through the full counsel of God in the written Word of God. One distinctive way of doing this is by teaching weekly through books of the Bible verse-by-verse.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ gave His life for the whole world (1 John 2:2). Therefore, as followers of Christ, we know that we can unconditionally love and serve others even if it means there's nothing we receive in return.

  • We believe God is calling us to a unique work in going where no one else is going to reach those that no one else is reaching. This means that we understand it will be a long and narrow path to help others see the beauty of Jesus Christ. This also means that we need to be intentional to see those who often are invisible to the rest of the world. As Jesus sought out the woman at the well in John 4, we seek both those who feel forgotten and those who do the forgetting.

  • We believe God is still at work today. Therefore, we want to prayerfully seek God's will in our planning and preparation for everything we do. We are continuationist, but not quite Pentecostal; believing that if we follow scripture, we will be able to experience the power of God in our lives and worship (1 Thess 4:8), while letting "all things be done decently and in order" (1 Cor. 14:40).

BKC Kids (Ages 3 years old - 5th grade)

Let's face it: as parents, we want the best for our kids. And yet, it can be so challenging to find engaging programs for children in New York City. Our prayer is to create an environment where learning about Jesus is both enjoyable and meaningful. We believe that Sunday church should not only be a time for worship but also an opportunity for kids to connect, grow, and have fun together.

We know the power of a Biblically based kids ministry, and we pray that these little ones will look forward to coming on Sundays each week!

Notes:

  • Parents and children will be together for corporate worship music and be dismissed for check-in to the classrooms.

  • Adults and responsible teens interested in serving in BKC Kids are welcome. Training and background checks are required.

  • Children will be given snacks during the program. If your child has an allergy, please let our volunteer team know upon drop-off.

  • If your child is showing symptoms of being sick, we request that you do not bring them to the classroom.

  • Transportation:

    • There is free street parking on Sundays available and the F&G subway station approximately a 5 minute walk away from the Carroll Street station.

Do you have anything for infants - 2 year old children?

    • We are a growing church that does not yet have a nursery / toddler ministry. We welcome little ones to join in the main worship service, while understanding this can be a difficult challenge for parents to focus on the Bible study and their babies.

    • If you would like to volunteer for a nursery ministry, please let us know! info@brooklyn.church.

    Can I bring a pet?

    • Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in the facility we use for worship services.

How long is the worship service?

    • Worship begins at 10:30am and concludes approximately at 12:00pm.

Do you have any affiliation with a denomination?

    • Brooklyn Church is a nondenominational church birthed out of the Calvary Chapel Movement.
